General Resources

FamilyTreeMaker:
This is a wonderful site, and the one we use the most. They have what we fell is the best Surname Forum on the Internet. Also of interest is the vast collection of genealogical CD's for sale and their free Family Finder utility.

SurnameWeb:
Another great site for looking up individual Surnames.

Ancestory.com

Cyndi's List:
Probabily the most comprehensive Genealogy site on the Internet.

USGenWeb:
Starting point for researching geographical areas of the United States. Links will take you down to county level if desired.

Emigration/Ship Lists:
Nice site with passenger records from ships around the globe.

Alta Vista Translations:
Very valuable tool when encountering information in a foriegn language. This site allows you to either place text in one language and have it translated to another, or enter an URL to have the entire page converted!

Gendex

GenRing:
Linking the world of Amateur Genealogists!

The Mormon Church's Genealogy Website.

Kindred Konnections:
This is an interesting site. It will allow you to do a Surname search and see the results, but you must subscribe to see the details. They have a neat way around this. If you don't want to pay for information, you WORK for it! They have a lot of records (photo copied images) and if you help typing it into text, you receive free time for your efforts!

Genealogy Gateway

Tuttle Antiquarian Books, Inc:
Not for everyone. If you have old Colonial roots there's a chance you'll find information here.

Family Chronicle Magazine:
Nice site. They have a lot of helpful articles including a fascinating section on dating old photographs.

Helm's Genealogy Toolbox

Genealogy is my hobby:
Lots of search engines to help you find Surnames

Barrel of Links:
Huge site with information on all topics related to Genealogy

Everton's Genealogical Helper:
A worthy rival to FamilyTreeMaker.

For some search engines designed to return only those with genealogical data try:
