Suicide--A novel, determined and successful suicide occurred Saturday evening last, in which Henry Trott, aged from thirty to forty years, was the victim. The suicide lived eight miles south of this city on the river, and for some time he has been considered not exactly sane by his neighbors, and it was supposed that his condition resulted from hard study. At the time indicated above he went to the river, where there was a tree felled into it, extending into the water where it was ten feet deep. He attached several heavy stones about his neck with wire and chains, and going out on the tree to where the water was deepest, threw himself in and sank at once. He was missed and searched for and an article or two of clothing on the bank led to his discovery. It is evident that he had meditated this act for some time, as a short time ago he had felled the tree into the river, and at other times he had built out a kind of scaffolding so that he could reach deep water. In answer to questions as to his motive in felling the tree, etc., he answered that it was a good place to dive from. And from that he dove into the water and into eternity. He was unmarried. In addition to the particulars given above, we learn that one of the stones he attached to his shoulders weighed eighty pounds and the other twenty. He made a groove around the larger one, and putting an iron ring on a wire, had fastened the wire in the groove. The ring he snapped into a chain which was around his body. He threw himself into the water backwards, and when found was lying face up, the stones holding him where he fell.

Mr. C. Trott, the death by suicide of whose brother we announced last week, states that our information relative to the matter was partially incorrect. He says that his brother was not insane, that he did not build a platform out into the river to jump from and that, hence, he did not tell any one that it would be a good place to dive from.
