Baptized as Joannes Reinhard, the son of Peter and Marie (Hartlaub) Reinhard was born in Niedernberg, Germany June 20, 1825. He later changed his name to John Reinhart. In 1833, at the age of eight, he came to America with his parents and siblings.
John married Susanna Strasser who was born September 29, 1831. She was 14 years old in 1846 when she came to this country from Mosenburg, Luxembourg with her brother, Thomas.
John and Susanna's farm was a mile west of his father's place and next to his sister Theresia Welly's farm. Their son, Ludwick, a boy of 7, was killed by a falling tree in the woods while watching his two brothers chop it down. All of their other children had farms in Big Springs Township near St. Peter's Church. The children of John and Susanna (Strasser) Reinhart are:
1. Mary (b. 7 Nov 1850 d. 21 Jul 1920) married 25 Aug 1870 to Michael Jacoby
2. Rosina (b. 8 Jul 1853 d. 20 Jan 1894) married Joseph Hoffbauer
3. Margaret (b. 1855 d. 1924) married Nicholas Schmitz
4. William Peter (b. 20 Jul 1857 d. 4 Jul 1939) married 3 Feb 1880 to Susan Ardner (one of their children, Mary Isabel married Edward William Falter, son of John B. Falter and Margaret Steinmetz).
5. John (b. 7 Dec 1860 d. 22 Jan 1917) married 5 Nov 1884 to Susan Siebenaller
6. Joseph (b. 1862 d. 1954) married Elizabeth Uphaus
7. Ludwick (b. 21 Dec 1865 d. 22 Mar 1872)
8. Theresa (b. 1867 d. 1931) married 13 May 1888 to Joseph Siebenaller
