John Simon Rupprecht was born July 4, 1853 to Philip and Margaret (Kern) Rupprecht in Washington Township, Hardin County, Ohio. He was one of eight children. He was confirmed in 1869 possibly at what is now St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jenera, Hancock County, Ohio. In their 125th Anniversary booklet under the class of 1869, Pentecost May 16, a John Rupprecht was confirmed. In the year 1866, Anna Rupprecht was confirmed and in 1872 George Rupprecht was confirmed. I (Grace Dornbirer Kutz) believe these to be John's brother and sister--children of Philip and Margaret Rupprecht.
John was married to Mary Elizabeth Huebner (Hübner) on April 8, 1880 in Hardin County, Ohio by G.F. Reitz. They had four children.
The parents of Mable and Viola Willeke with whom I (Grace Dornbirer Kutz) grew up with knew the family well and speak highly of them. As a child, I remember grandpa well. He came to Chatfield often to visit us and on one occasion he said, "Just think, I'm 60 years old and I can still cut corn." He was friendly and loved by us children. He was a fine looking man.
After his first wife Elizabeth's death, John Simon married Lena Casper Frank on July 23, 1911 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Dola, Ohio by Rev. Paul Dornbirer. John and Lena had no children of their own. John Simon died of a stroke on February 22, 1929 and is buried at Smith Cemetery near St. John's Church.
