Obituary taken from the April 5, 1895 Seneca Advertiser:
Charles Thomb, Sr. died at his home in Seneca Township on Wednesday, the 29th. prox. Funeral services were held at the St. Boniface Catholic Church on Friday.
The deceased was born in New Bavaria, Germany, in 1809, whence he crossed the ocean at an early age and settled in Seneca Township and lived there until his death. He was one of the first settlers in that township. His energy and labor added greatly to the development of the surrounding country.
In 1838, Mr. Thomb and Mary Weaver were solemnly united in marriage and lived to enjoy their golden wedding, which was celebrated in 1888. His wife died the same year, leaving Mr. Thomb quietly to enjoy the fruits of his labor. The deceased was the father of eleven children, all of whom are living, except one, Peter, who died in 1894 at his home in Nebraska. He is the grandfather of ninety grandchildren and the great-grandfather of eighteen children.
