Biography/Notes

Laurentius' father (Johannes Petrus) ran a tavern in Germany. The taxes were very high so they came to America. "That is what I remember my father telling me," says Josie (Courtade) Monroe, talking to Clara Ann (Courtade) Lotschultz.

They settled in Seneca County, Ohio. Lorenz was a shoemaker by trade. He married Barbara Host (b 2 Jan 1810 Bavaria, Germany, d 15 Feb 1882 Traverse City, Mi) in Norwalk, Ohio. After living in Ohio a few years, they traveled by wagon to Detroit, Michigan, and from there to Grand Rapids where they lived in Wright Township near Reno. Some years later, they moved to Traverse City and took up a homestead. Sons Peter, Henry, and John each had a farm. Last known, Henry's farm was in the family on 2100 East Hammond Rd.
