Philip M. Falter was born December 21, 1877 in St. Stephen, Seneca County, Ohio. He was baptised that same month in

Philip Falter family home D
St. Stephen Catholic Church. He married on May 5, 1902 to Anna Studer and settled down to a life of farming.
The Falter family earned a living through farming oats, wheat, corn, and soybeans at their homestead near the small village of St. Stephen. They also raised cows for milk, and heifers, pigs, and chickens to butcher for food. Hogs were raised mainly for sale. The family maintained a large garden and hundreds of quarts of fruits and vegetables were canned each year. They didn't need to buy groceries often because they lived off of their farm products. The effects of the Depression caused them to save their small amount of money. The Falter family lived in a large house that had a seperate summer house that would be used for cooking during the summer when it was very hot. This kept the main house cool.
The family was very religious and attended St. Stephens Catholic Church on all Sundays and Holy days. All the children attended Catholic school through the eighth grade.
